The Making of the Official Music Video!

I was super excited to put this video together but as I got into researching images and video that went along with my lyrics it started to get to get a bit tricky.

As you may have noticed, I have a deep love and respect for Dolly Parton. Since this song is an ode to Dolly, I needed to “ask myself one critical question. What would Dolly Do, if she were in my shoes?” The whole reason I wrote this song is because of how divided our world has become. I mean, literally everything has become political and we can’t get a consensus on any one topic except perhaps our love of Dolly Parton. Here’s where it gets tricky, Dolly is not remotely political with her public persona.

I have many images of what our divide looks like but they are all political in nature. So, I had to be extremely thoughtful about each image that I chose and get creative with my interpretation of the lyrics. Symbols can subtly convey ideas that get a point across just as well as literal images.

My hope with this song and video is to get to people think about the choices they make that impact others in their family, community and ultimately the world, at large. “So, ask yourself, What Would Dolly Do, if she were in our shoes.” I’m pretty sure “she’d do the right thing, and we can too.”
