What Would Dolly Do?
Release Date: May 14, 2021
About Me
I was 12 years old when I first heard “Here You Come Again,” by Dolly Parton. I’ll never forget that moment because it was what I would call a soul moment. A soul moment is when you first see (or hear in my case) someone and instantly know they are going to be a significant influence in your life. A soul moment is when you know something with every fiber of your being. When that song came on the radio, I knew Dolly would be a big part of my life and that I wanted to be a singer. I formally trained as a vocalist for 25 years and decided to sing spiritual music. With loads of hope and excitement, in April of 2004, I released my first CD. The rest of 2004 didn’t go so well. Within a six-month period, I experienced a series of significant losses, including the death of my brother, my dear friend and my baby daughter. I was flattened. I tried to continue singing to promote my CD, but I just couldn’t. I was too raw. I didn’t sing a note for 15 years.
I was already a trained hypnotherapist and decided to become a Grief Recovery Specialist. I poured myself into my Spiritual Counseling/Hypnotherapy/Grief Recovery practice and being a New Thought minister.
Cut to 2020: I’m teaching Sunday school at Unity of the Blue Ridge, and COVID hits! I had to figure out how to provide lessons for the kids in an entertaining way. So, I learned the ukulele, bought a microphone and produced mini Sunday school videos each week. As the year went on, I learned how to record in GarageBand and started writing songs.
Our world has become so divided during a time when we should be coming together. There is literally only one topic we can all agree on and that is Dolly Parton. That’s where I got the inspiration for my first song, “What Would Dolly Do?.” My wish for this song is that it will make people smile and maybe make them think. I plan to continue writing songs that inspire people, to create music that meets a person where they are, and brings them closer to their soul purpose and to a place of understanding and wisdom. I want to write songs that challenge us to do the right thing.
